WHY SCENT WORK CHANGES DOGS
A dog's nose has roughly 300 million scent receptors — compared to a human's 6 million — and roughly 40% of a dog's brain is devoted to processing smell. When you let a dog use that hardware on purpose, three things happen: they get tired in a way that a walk cannot replicate, they get more confident because searching is a skill they can master, and reactive or anxious dogs often calm down because nosework requires focus that competes with anxiety.

HOW IT WORKS
Pair the odor
Your dog learns to associate a target scent (typically birch essential oil) with something they love — food or a high-value toy.
Search for the source
We move from obvious placements to hidden ones, teaching your dog to actively hunt the odor across containers, rooms, and vehicles.
Build the alert
Your dog learns a clear, trained final behavior — a sit, freeze, or nose-touch — that tells you "found it."
Add odors & environments
Second and third odors (anise, clove) are layered in, and we take searches into new locations with real-world distractions.
WHO'S IT FOR?
High-drive dogs who never seem tired. Working breeds, herders, and sport dogs need mental work as much as physical. Scent work delivers it in minutes, not hours.
Reactive or anxious dogs. Searching is one of the few activities that reliably out-competes anxiety. Many reactive dogs are calmer, more confident, and more focused after a few weeks of nose work. It pairs powerfully with our behavior programs and separation anxiety work.
Senior dogs and retirees. When joints won't allow long runs or high-impact sport, scent work keeps a dog's brain sharp and their sense of purpose intact.
Sport-minded owners. AKC Scent Work and NACSW Nose Work titles are within reach for any dog who completes our Proficient program.
