WHY PRIVATE LESSONS?
Group classes teach a generic curriculum at a pace set for eight dogs, in a room full of distractions you can't control. Private lessons are the opposite: 100% of a professional trainer's attention on your dog, your household, and your actual problems. Door-bolting when the Amazon driver knocks? Counter-surfing in an open-concept kitchen? Dragging you down the sidewalk toward every dog in the neighborhood? We work the specific issue in the specific context where it happens — not a classroom approximation of it.
But the bigger reason Houston families choose lessons is this: you become the trainer. In board & train, we train your dog full-time and transfer the skills to you at graduation. In private lessons, you build those skills rep by rep from day one — leash mechanics, marker timing, how to reward, when to correct, how to read your dog's arousal before it tips over. 8 private lessons. Everything in Basic plus advanced off-leash work and distraction proofing — the full path to a dog that listens at the park, on the trail, and around other dogs.
LESSONS OR BOARD & TRAIN?
The honest decision rule we give every family at the evaluation: more time than urgency → lessons. More urgency than time → board & train. If you can genuinely invest 10–15 minutes a day and you want the deepest handler skills, lessons deliver the most durable result per dollar. If work, kids, and a Houston commute mean the daily reps won't happen — or the problem is escalating — immersion gets a professional's hands on the dog every single day, then transfers the finished skills to you. What happens in the first private lesson?
Your trainer evaluates how you and your dog currently communicate, teaches the marker system and leash mechanics that everything else builds on, starts the first commands, and sends you home with specific daily homework. From lesson one, you are the one handling the dog.
Can private lessons fix pulling on the leash?
Yes — loose-leash walking and heel are core Basic Obedience skills, and pulling is one of the most common problems we fix. Because you learn the leash mechanics yourself, the fix holds on every walk, not just the ones the trainer attends.
What if my dog has aggression or reactivity issues?
