DOG TRAINING MAGNOLIA, TX
Acreage next door, livestock down the road, wetlands at Unity Park and a wave of new-subdivision puppies. Magnolia dogs need manners that hold up outdoors, and we build them at our NW Houston facility, about 21 miles down SH 249.

THE DRIVE FROM MAGNOLIA
Magnolia is spread out, so your drive depends on which side of FM 1488 you live on. These are routing estimates to our door at 12115 Fawnview Dr:
| Starting point | Distance | Time | Main roads |
|---|---|---|---|
| City of Magnolia (near City Hall) | 21.0 mi | ~30 min | FM 1488, SH 249 Aggie Expressway and Tomball Tollway, Eldridge Pkwy |
| South Magnolia, ZIP 77355 | 19.1 mi | ~34 min | Nichols Sawmill Rd, SH 99 Grand Parkway, Telge Rd, Grant Rd |

Estimates from the OSRM route planner with no traffic. The fastest routes use toll roads (SH 249 and SH 99).
For a weekly lesson, that is one drive a week. For a board and train, it is two drives in total: you drop your dog off, and you come back for the go-home session where we hand the training over to you.
CITY LIMITS OR COUNTY? IT CHANGES THE RULES
The City of Magnolia covers about 5.7 square miles and, in its own words, the Magnolia mailing address is "much larger than our city limits." The 2020 Census counted 2,359 people in the city, while ZIP codes 77354 and 77355 held about 70,000 people. Neighborhoods such as Audubon, Lake Windcrest, Woodland Oaks, Glen Oaks and High Meadow Ranch sit outside city limits on current Census maps, so county rules apply there (City of Magnolia FAQ).
- Inside the City of Magnolia: off your property a dog counts as "at large" unless it is on a leash or chain no longer than 15 feet (Code Sec. 10-1), every animal must be kept under restraint (Sec. 10-3), and voice control only counts during actual training or an official obedience event (Magnolia Code Ch. 10).
- Rabies: the city requires vaccination by 3 months of age (Sec. 10-6); Texas law sets 4 months statewide (Health and Safety Code 826.021). Inside the city, plan for the earlier date.
- Barking and kennels: the city bans animals that make excessive noise (Sec. 10-4) and kennels of three or more dogs or cats in residential areas (Sec. 10-6).
- Unincorporated Montgomery County: dogs must be kept under restraint (leash held by a capable person, an enclosure, a vehicle, or your physical control), with fines up to $500 per violation (Montgomery County Animal Services ordinance).
- Outdoor dogs, statewide: a dog left outside on a tether needs shade, shelter and drinking water, and the tether cannot be a chain (Texas Safe Outdoor Dogs Act, HSC 821.101 to 821.104).
WHERE MAGNOLIA DOGS PRACTICE
Training sticks when you practice it where you live. These are public places close to Magnolia, with the rules that apply there, and the homework each one is good for:
Unity Park, 19450 Unity Park Dr
About 30 acres with 2.5 miles of trails, bridges and wetland piers. Pets must be leashed at all times and waste picked up; open 7 am to dark. The city has posted that alligators have been sighted in the wetlands.
Practice here: loose-leash walking on the trail loop, and a short-leash heel plus "leave it" on the piers and near the water.

The Stroll and Sullivan Park
A half-mile, tree-shaded linear park in Magnolia Town Center, joined to Unity Park by Unity Park Drive. City parks require a leash or immediate control (Code Sec. 78-76).
Practice here: sit at every curb, calm passing of strollers and other dogs, and a settle while you stop to talk.

W.G. Jones State Forest
1,722 acres and nearly 17 miles of trails at the east end of the FM 1488 corridor, near I-45. The forest asks that pets stay leashed at all times and that you pack out waste.
Practice here: longer trail days that build focus past hikers, bikes and the smell of wildlife.

No public off-leash park
We could not find a public off-leash dog park in or near Magnolia on any official source. Some subdivisions have private amenities for residents. That makes a reliable recall on a long line, practiced in your own yard, more valuable here than in most places.
MAGNOLIA REALITIES WE TRAIN FOR
Acreage and livestock
Magnolia's code devotes a whole article to livestock and counts a dog that has more than once severely injured or killed a domestic animal off its property as dangerous. A dog that chases horses, goats or chickens needs a recall and a "leave it" that work under real temptation.
New Year's fireworks
Since September 2025 the city allows consumer fireworks inside city limits from sunset on December 31 to 1 am on January 1 (Ordinance O-2025-027). Noise work and a solid crate and settle routine are worth starting in the fall.
Floods and evacuations
Montgomery County estimated more than 880 homes damaged or destroyed in the May 2016 Spring Creek floods. A dog that loads into a crate calmly and settles in a strange place makes leaving in a hurry much easier.
A town full of new puppies
The city's population rose from 2,359 in 2020 to an estimated 5,836 in 2024, and new subdivisions keep opening. Our Puppy Board and Train is built for pups 10 to 20 weeks old.
