"Behaviorist" is the most confusing word in the dog world, so let's define it properly. A board-certified veterinary behaviorist (DACVB) is a veterinarian with residency-level specialization who can diagnose medical causes and prescribe medication — they are genuinely rare, with only a small number practicing in all of Texas, and the serious clinical cases belong with them. A certified behavior consultant works complex cases without prescribing. A professional trainer changes behavior through structure, conditioning, and owner coaching.

The behavior evaluation is free and takes about 30 minutes at our NW Houston facility. We take a full history — when it started, what triggers it, what you've tried, household changes — then assess your dog directly: temperament, thresholds, how they recover from pressure, how they read you. You leave with one of three outcomes, stated plainly: a specific training plan (program, timeline, and exact price — typically $1,100 for lesson-based behavior work up to $3,500–$4,000 for immersive behavioral board & train); a management protocol for the household when full resolution isn't the realistic goal; or a referral to your veterinarian or a veterinary behaviorist when medicine belongs in the plan. Sometimes it's a combination — medication support from your vet while we rebuild the behavior.
